Saluki Swim Club Finishes 8^th in 2010 Saluki International                                   May, 2010

            Fifty-nine Saluki Swim Club swimmers competed in the 2010 Saluki International held last weekend at the Shea Natatorium.  The team finished 8^th overall out of 17 teams competing in the meet.  In all Saluki swimmers achieved 343 personal best times in races throughout the weekend.  This amounted to personal best times in 85% of their races.  Saluki swimmers also achieved 99 B times, 87 BB times, 19 A times, 14 AA times, 7 AAA times, and 2 AAAA times.  Nineteen Saluki swimmers (Bethany Akinduro, Cody Bailey, Amelia Coello, Sara Coello, Stephen Cohen, Camille Davis, Ryan Hall, Calvin Kolar, Ashlee Kuan, Cameron Kuan, Jerry Kuhnert, Luke Lauzon, Darlene Sao, Joan Shang, Austyn Sigler, Jacob Stone, Emily Stroud, Steven Thompson, and Kelsie Walker) achieved 81 Ozark Championship qualifying times.  In addition, Camille Davis, Calvin Kolar and Kelsie Walker achieved 6 Sectional Championship times. 

            Saluki swimmers who finished in the top 16 in their individual events and scored points for the team included:  Bethany Akinduro – 9 years old – 8^th in the 50 breast;  Aidan Anthony – 10 years old – 16^th in the 200 free;  Cody Bailey – 13 years old- 13^th in the 800 free, 14^th in the 200 fly and the 200 back;  Daniel Burgener – 13 years old – 15^th in the 200 back;  Amelia Coello – 12 years old – 12^th in the 50 breast and 13^th in the 100 breast;  Stephen Cohen – 17 years old – 13^th in the 800 free;  Camille Davis – 16 years old – 1^st in the 100 and 200 back, 7^th in the 800 free, 9^th in the 400 free and 100 fly, and 10^th in the 200 IM;  Ryan Hall – 16 years old – 10^th in the 200 back, 11^th in the 400 IM, and 15^th in the 200 fly;  Daniel Henley – 12 years old – 16^th in the 200 free; Kristie Huff – 17 years old – 16^th in the 200 breast;  Stephanie Jaros – 15 years old – 15^th in the 200 breast;  Calvin Kolar – 17 years old – 2^nd in the 100 free and 100 breast, 3^rd in the 200 IM, 4^th in the 200 breast, 6th in the 50 free, 7^th in the 200 free, 12^th in the 100 back, 100 fly, 400 and 800 free;  Ashlee Kuan – 14 years old – 8^th in the 100 back, 9^th in the 400 IM, 11^th in the 200 back, and 15^th in the 200 fly, 200 breast, 400 and 800 free;  Cameron Kuan – 10 years old -10^th in the 50 and 100 free, 11^th in the 200 IM and 100 breast, 12^th in the 50 breast, 13^th in the 50 back, and 15^th in the 200 free;  Jerry Kuhnert – 14 years old – 11^th in the 400 IM, 100 and 200 breast; Luke Lauzon – 10 years old – 9^th in the 50 free, 10^th in the 50 breast, 11^th in the 50 fly, 100 and 200 free, 14^th in the 100 breast, and 15^th in the 50 back;  Abigail Oehlsen – 10 years old – 11^th in the 200 IM and 16^th in the 200 free; Miranda Payne – 15 years old – 14^th in the 200 breast;  Darlene Sao – 16 years old – 6^th in the 400 IM, 9^th in the 200 IM, 12^th in the 100 free and 200 breast, 13^th in the 100 breast, 14^th in the 400 free and 15^th in the 200 free; Joan Shang – 15 years old – 8^th in the 400 IM, 9^th in the 200 breast, and 14^th in the 100 fly; Austyn Sigler – 16 years old – 3^rd in the 100 breast and 7^th in the 200 breast;  Jacob Stone – 12 years old – 1^st in the 100 breast and 50 free, 2^nd in the 50 breast, 100, 200, and 400 free, 6^th in the 100 back, and 7^th in the 100 fly; Emily Stroud – 14 years old – 14^th in the 50 free and 16^th in the 800 free;  Elizabeth Tang – 9 years old – 12^th in the 200 IM; Steven Thompson – 10 years old – 9^th in the 50 fly, 10^th in the 200 IM, 12^th in the 200 free, 13^th in the 50 free, and 16^th in the 100 free and 100 back;  Kelsie Walker – 14 years old – 1^st in the 100 and 200 fly, 400 and 800 free, 2^nd in the 100 free, 3^rd in the 400 IM, 5^th in the 100 back and 200 free, 7^th in the 50 free, and 15^th in the 100 back.

Also, a special congratulations to Kelsie Walker and Camille Davis for setting new team records!  Camille bettered her previous record time in the 15-16 girls 200 back and Kelsie broke the 13-14 girls 800 free record (from 1988!)

Pulliam Hall Pool Closed for Repairs                                                                 May, 2010

I was informed today that Pulliam Hall Pool will be closed for the near future due to mechanical problems,  The several of the pipes involved with the pool have melted.  I do not know when Pulliam Hall pool will be open again.  Starting Monday, May 3 (and until further notice) all racing team groups will meet at their normally scheduled practice times at the Rec Center pool.  The Rec Center has some specific rules regarding our use of the pool.  No parents will be admitted to the lower level of the Rec Center (unless you have your own Rec Center membership).  Swimmer will be admitted through the lower level and should go immediately to the pool area.  Parents who have concerns about letting their swimmer enter the lower level of the Rec Center without a parent should find an older swimmer to walk with or avoid practices until Pulliam Hall Pool is open.  It is very important that we follow these rules.  The rules are for the safety of all Rec Center members.  If we break this rule and parents enter the lower level (without a Rec Center membership), then practices at the Rec Center will be canceled.   Thank you for your understanding!  We hope that Pulliam Hall Pool will be open again soon.  Please monitor this situation through email, our website and the Saluki HQ line 457-1103.

Swim School groups - Your lessons will also be at the Rec Center at their normal time.

Saluki Swimmer Strong in Gator Long Course Kick Off                                          May, 2010

            Nineteen Saluki Swim Club swimmers competed in the 2010 Gator Long Course Kick Off April 30 through May 2 in Cape Girardeau, MO.  The Salukis were lead by Stephen Cohen, Jacob Stone and Kelsie Walker who all finished in the Top 3 in High Points award winners in their respective age groups.  Cody Bailey, Stephen Cohen, Camille Davis, Jacob Stone, and Kelsie Walker swam times fast enough to rank them in the Saluki Swim Club Top 5.  Jacob Stone set team records in the 200 breast and 400 IM.  In all Saluki swimmers achieved 12 B times, 28 BB times, 10 A times, 9 AA times, and 13 AAA times.  Ten Saluki swimmers (Cody Bailey, Stephen Cohen, Camille Davis, Ryan Hall, Calvin Kolar, Ashlee Kuan, Darlene Sao, Austyn Sigler, Jacob Stone, and Kelsie Walker) achieved 31 Ozark qualifying times and Camille Davis and Kelsie Walker achieved 5 Sectional qualifying times.

            Saluki swimmers who finished in the top 16 and scored points in the meet included:  Cody Bailey (13 years old) – 2^nd in the 100 free, 4^th in the 800 free, 13^th in the 100 fly, and 15^th in the 200 free;  Ty Buchmeier (9 years old) – 6^th in the 100 free, 7^th in the 50 and 200 free, 8^th in the 50 back, 50 and 100 breast, 9^th in the 100 back, and 11^th in the 100 fly;  Stephen Cohen (17 years old) – 1^st in the 100 breast, 50 and 100 free, 3^rd in the 100 fly and 200 free, 4^th in the 200 breast, 6^th in the 200 IM, and 8^th in the 400 IM;  Camille Davis (16 years old) – 1^st in the 100 and 200 back, 4^th in the 100 free, 5^th in the 200 free, 9^th in the 50 free, 10^th in the 400 free, and 14^th in the 200 IM;  Ian Davis (13 years old) – 4^th in the 100 free, 13^th in the 50 free, and 15^th in the 200 back;  Ryan Hall (15 years old) – 4^th in the 200 fly, 5^th in the 800 free, 8^th in the 200 back, 10^th in the 200 and 1500 free, 11^th in the 400 free, 12^th in the 400 IM, 13^th in the 50 free, and 16^th in the 200 IM;  Sarah Hall (18 years old) – 3^rd in the 200 fly; Kristie Huff (17 years old) – 11^th in the 100 breast, 15^th in the 200 back, and 16^th in the 100 free;  Calvin Kolar (17 years old) – 7^th in the 400 IM;  Ashlee Kuan (13 years old) – 3^rd in the 100 back, 4^th in the 200 back, 6^th in the 200 fly and 100 breast, 8^th in the 200 breast, 9^th in the 400 IM, 10^th in the 100 fly, and 13^th in the 200 IM;  Cortney McCoskey (11 years old) – 13^th in the 50 free and 16^th in the 200 breast;  Connor McPeek (12 years old) – 16^th in the 50 free and 200 breast;  Abigail Oehlsen (10 years old) – 7^th in the 50 and 200 free, 11^th in the 100 free, 14^th in the 100 back and 50 breast, and 15^th in the 100 breast;  Darlene Sao (16 years old) – 11^th in the 200 breast, 13^th in the 50 free, and 15^th in the 200 IM;  Austyn Sigler (16 years old) – 1^st in the 100 breast, 7^th in the 200 breast, 11^th in the 100 fly, 12^th in the 200 back, and 14^th in the 100 free; Jacob Stone (12 years old) – 1^st in the 100 breast, 50, 100, 200, 400, and 800 free and 2^nd in the 200 breast, 200 and 400 IM;  Kelsie Walker (14 years) – 1^st in the 100 and 200 fly, 200, 800, and 1500 free, 2^nd in the 50 free and 400 IM, 3^rd in the 400 free, and 4^th in the 200 IM. 

            Saluki Swim Club swimmers will be competing in the Saluki International May 21-23 here in Carbondale at the Shea Natatorium on the SIU campus.
