The
Racing Team
How to join
Enrolment in the Racing
Team program is limited due to practice time and available pool space. To accommodate
new athletes we have created registration
categories for current athletes, past athletes, and new athletes.
Click here to view the various registration
categories.
Current athletes
are guaranteed spots if they reregister within the designated period. Intake of new
and past
athletes is on a space available basis only.
Minimum
requirements
Children joining
the Racing Team must meet the following minimum requirements:
-
Children must be
at least 7 years old;
-
Able to complete
50 yards each of freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke with reasonably good form;
-
Able
to dive into the pool from the side (they will have to do this several
times during the evaluation session);
-
NOTE: Regardless
of how well a younger child may swim, new members must be at least 7 years
old to join our Racing Team.
Athletes Must
be Evaluated
The first step in joining the
Racing Team is to have the athletes skills assessed. The evaluation
process consists of the skill assessment listed above as well as a short
workout of 400-700 yards. Athletes who meet the requirements will be given
an initial group placement.
NOTE: Athletes are not offered
spots on the team during the evaluation session. The offer takes place later, and
depends on what registration category
the athlete
is in and the number of slots available. |

UPCOMING EVALUATIONS |
|
The next evaluation session will be held on:
Monday, 15
December 2008
for the WINTER 2009 session that
begins in January.
The session will
begin at 6:00p at Pulliam pool. Please call Saluki HQ 618-457-1103
or
email us to reserve a spot in the evaluation session.
What to
wear
Swimmers must come to the evaluation session ready to swim. This
includes proper swim
training attire (baggy shorts or 'beach wear' are not acceptable),
and goggles and a swim cap if the child needs
one.
What to expect
Evaluations will determine if the child is ready for organized
competitive swim training. They are comprehensive and can be
physically stressful. All activities are age appropriate and
simulate what athletes will experience in actual workout sessions. |
